Q: Is admission to the University of Mehr-Alborz solely
based on the Iranian national university entrance exams or are other options available
for admissions? |
|
A: Admissions to the University of Mehr-Alborz is both
possible through the Iranian national university entrance exams and also through examination provided by the University of Mehr-Alborz. The rule and regulations of student admission through the university’s examinations will be announced in phases. Please check
the university’s website for forthcoming details.

Q: Are students given
exemption from military training while continuing their studies at the University of Mehr-Alborz? |
|
A:Given that the University of Mehr-Alborz is under the regulation of the Iranian
Ministry of Science, Research, and Technology, students registered at the university, similar
to all other state and private universities of Iran, are exempt from military training. |
|
Q: Is the degree awarded by the University of MehrAlborz approved by Iran’s Ministry
of Science, Research and Technology? |
|
A: Degrees awarded to the graduates of the University of MehrAlborz are approved
by Iran’s Ministry of Science, Research and Technology and are of good standing. |

Q: Are all classes of the university held virtually or at times held in a physical
location? |
|
A: The
University offers all taught subject via e-learning based information systems.
For each of the taught subjects, classes both held virtually and also in a physical
location –attendance for both of these modes are compulsory for all students. The
number of classes held in a physical location are under the discretion of the lecturers;
usually this is doesn’t occur more than 2 or 3 sessions per semester. The number
of non-virtual classes will be announced in the teaching schedule before the start
of classes of each semester. |

Q: What is meant by virtual teaching? |
|
A:Virtual teaching is based on e-learning models that at a minimum offer all the
traditional educational services via information communication technologies. |
|
Q: How does the University of Mehr Alborz offer its educational services online? |
A: The University of MehrAlborz offers its educational services through a Learning
Management System (LMS). The Universiy’s LMS is of high quality and efficiency and
is capable of delivering the sensitive and complex materials for the courses.
Students
are required to log in daily on the LMS and through the facilitations of the teaching
teams of the university access the available course materials. |

Q: What do I need to start my studies at the university? |
|
A: In order to access the educational sources provided by the university, a computer
with a connection to the World Wide Web is needed. Educational materials, including
multimedia files, have been designed in away so that you will be able to download
them at the minimum with a 56K modem. Additionally, supportive teaching materials
will be provided to students through simulation programs and CDs. As the University of MehrAlborz relies on open-source
software, students are not liable for software usage fees. |

Q: Are lecturers and other teaching staff available to assist and answer the questions
of students? |
|
A: At the University of MehrAlborz every class is guided by a professor specialized
in the subject being taught. Professors are responsible for setting weekly assignments,
answering student questions and evaluating the class. Based on the size of the class,
in addition to the proffesors, teaching assistants will be assigned to each class. Both professors and their assistant’s, through the available virtual educational
tools, will
continually interact with students. In this light, the level of interaction in virtual
classes between students and the academic staff is arguably much more significant
than the traditional classroom.

Q: Why should I embark on program at a virtual university? |
|
A: Studying at the University of MehrAlborz provides students
to benefit from an advanced educational environment independent of their location
of work, home, and
time zone. |

Q: What programs are offered at the university? |
|
A: : Currently the university offers a Masters in Information Technology Management
(MITM) and Masters in Business Administration (MBA). In the near future more programs
will be designed and launched. In addition to our Master’s degree programs the university will also offer short
degree courses aimed at working professionals.

Q:Are virtual degree programs comparable in quality to traditional programs? |
|
A: The educational services at offer are inline with international quality standards.
Additionally, the use of the most recent information technologies in our learning
methods is arguably a valuable opportunity for students to become up-to-date and
experience hands on with such technologies. |

Q: What documents are required to apply for admissions at UMA? |
A: For the Masters degree program: Applicant are required to display a Bachelors
degree in a relevant subject and also pass the entrance exams of the UMA.
For the
Bachelors degree program: Applicants are required to display a valid high school
diploma and also pass Iran’s national university exam or the exam provided
by the UMA.

Q: Can I meet other students online? How can we communicate amongst each other? |
|
A: Yes of course! You will be meeting your classmates at the induction seminar,
workshops, and also at the examinations. As part of your course you are required to keep
in constant communication with your classmates and for this purpose a number of
online tools have been designed -such as an e-mail system, chat rooms and discussion
boards. |

Q: If I have a problem while studying, is it possible to directly discuss it with
the class professor? |
|
A: Professors and teacher assistants are available online according to a predefined
schedule. You can ask for help by e-mailing your professor or TA and also post a
question on the discussion board. Since you might be studying at home don’t think
no one is around to help you get through a question. One of the central tenants
of e-learning is strengthening an online community where both teachers and students
can help in knowledge creation. |

Q: What is the language of instruction at UMA? |
|
A: The official language of instruction at UMA is Farsi (Persian). This means that lectures,
examinations and the day-to-day language is Persian. However, the university has
a dual-language policy namely that of English and Persian; almost all of the course
material is in English. Additionally, some of the online evaluations and communications
will be conducted in English. Therefore, as a requirement, students whom wish to
commence their studies at UMA must maintain strong English skills. |

Q:Will there be an opportunity to continue my studies after I graduate from MAU? |
|
A: Yes, graduates of UMA can continue their studies both in Iranian and foreign
universities. UMA runs joint programs with reputable universities and
is recognized as a university specializing in the subject area of
information and communication technologies. |

Q: After successfully completing the online degree programs, what skills will I
have developed? |
|
A: In addition to becoming completely experienced with the most recent and innovative
usages of information technology, students will also strengthen their English language
skills, both oral and written, and also specialize in their field of study.
