3rd ACD Roundtable Meeting in Kuala Lumpur on the Asia-e-University Initiative
The AeU roundtable was held on March 2008 in Kuala Lumpur in the presence
of ACD member countries. The objectives of the meeting were to propose areas of
collaboration and partnership in different fields and to develop an Asian credit
and Transfer System (ACTS). This conference was a good opportunity to discuss possible
areas of cooperation between all participants and provide the opportunity for closer
collaboration among Asian institutes of higher education in the field of e-learning.
The Asia e University (AeU) aspires to be a premier educational hub in the promotion
of e-Learning initiatives in Asia and in this light, an MoU was signed between the
AeU and Mehr Alborz University to develop all areas of cooperation .

First virtual class of the University of Mehr Alborz successfully held.
The first virtual class of the University of Mehr Alborz was held between 19:00
– 21:00 on Tuesday 02/12/2008 with Dr. Shami leading the Analysis and Design of
Structural Systems. The class consisted of a lecture and was followed by questions
and answers among the students and the lecturer.
From an evaluation of the first virtual class, it has been agreed to hold a workshop
in the coming weeks to better familiarize the students with the functions and abilities
of the virtual environment.

The 8th
Board of Trustees meeting of the University of Mehr Alborz
The 8th
Board of Trustees meeting was held on 02/12/2008 at the university office
and chaired by Dr. Kharrazi. Following a progress report of the last three months
the following points were ratified by the board.
1. The student capacity for next year’s graduate degree programs in Management of
Information Technology and Executive Management is increased to 90 spaces.
2. The MoU with Sharif University of Technology was approved and a working committee
was designated to make operational the agreements in this regard within the next
month.
3. The subject of cooperation with the Malaysian Multimedia University was discussed
and it was agreed to establish a branch office of the University of Mehr Alborz
in Malaysia.
4. The University’s budget for the next 9 months was presented to the Board and
the Financial Officer was requested to balance the annual budget of the university.

Iran’s “mother universities” identified
Deputy-Minister of Science, Research, and Technology has stated in an interview
with ISNA, that his ministry aims to upgrade the standing of the country’s major
universities among their international counterparts.

Statistic for national entrance exams for graduate degree programs released
Dr. Khodai, the Deputy Director of the National Evaluation
Office stated in an interview with ISNA: In the graduate degree program entrance
examinations for 1386, out of 430,568 participants 27,669 have been admitted to
the countries universities. Out of the students admitted 21,881 students graduated
from state universities, 1443 from Payam Noor University, 888 from private universities,
and 3455 from Azad Islamic University.

The details of the national graduate degree entrance exams for 1387 released

1387 will be held on the 1st of Esfand across

The deadline for completing Chapter 1 of the MIT courses extended
Following the request of students, the deadline for completing Chapter 1 of the
MIT courses have been extended to the second teaching session at Friday February
the 1st at 24:00. In addition to studying and answering the quiz for Chapter 2,
students can complete the quiz of Chapter 1 during the second teaching session.

Classes for the MITM degree will commence from the 1st of Bahman (January – February).
Each chapter is available for students on a weekly basis
with previous chapters also accessible as the teaching moves forward. It is essential
for students to participate in all aspects of the virtual teaching especially the
weekly examinations.

The second workshop on using the learning portal held for teaching staff
The second workshop for professors and teacher assistants of the MITM program was
held on 01/17/08. In this session the learning portal administrators gave a presentation
on the functionality of the Learning Management System (LMS) and the virtual class.
The session was followed with a questions and answers from the teaching staff of
thE MITM program.
Also, in this session the term’s academic calendar was finalized. All technical
support services of this session was provided by Sharif Pishrovan Systems from Sharif
University of Technology.

AT&T President visits Mehr Alborz University
Mehr Alborz University had the honor of receiving Dr. Hossein Eslambolchi, a leading
Iranian-American scientist, as a guest in his visit to Iran after 30 years. In his
career Dr. Eslambolchi has patented more than 1,060 inventions in America and rose
to become the President of AT&T labs and a leading officer at AT&T for many
years. In his latest book, “2020 Vision”, has set the foundation of communications
industry over the next two decades.
Dr. Eslambolchi found virtual universities one of the most important developments
of the next decades and welcomed the establishment of Mehr Alborz University in
Iran. He also maintained confidence in the potential of Iran’s professional workforce,
the countries infrastructure, and expressed his willingness for the expansion of
academic cooperation between MAU and American universities.

Courses and professors for the MITM degree program announced
Five courses namely: MIS, Information Technology, Advanced
Managerial Theories, Analysis and Design of Information Systems, and Computers in
Management are at offer in this term for the MITM degree program. These courses
will be taught by: Dr. Kermanshah, Dr. Kharazi, Dr. Hajarian, Dr. Shami, and Dr.
Shirmohammadi.
